Priority Registration For Active Duty Military & VeteransÌý

Each collegeÌýoffers priority registration for classes to all veterans and members of the military. If you are using your VA educational benefits, you will automatically be entered into the system to receive first-day priority registration. If you are not using your VAÌýeducational benefitsÌýand want priority registration, you must present your DD214 or military ID to Admissions and Records.Ìý

Do I need to request my benefits each semester?Ìý

Certification is not automatic. To have your certification submitted to the VA you must:Ìý

1. Register for classesÌýÌý

2. Complete the Program Approval Form with a counselor.ÌýÌý

3. Submit the completed form to the Veterans Certifying Agent in Admissions and Records at the start of each semester.ÌýÌý

How do I avoid owing money to the VA if I make a class schedule change?Ìý

Always contact the Admissions and Records office at your college to report any change in your enrollment. Changes such as Add/Drop or Withdrawals, switching courses, etc. need to be reported immediately so thatÌýyouÌýdo not end up owing money back to the VA.ÌýÌýÌý

What happens if I am deployed while I am attending college?Ìý

You can apply for military withdrawal.ÌýÌý

• Students requesting military withdrawal must present a written request for withdrawal and military orders verifying the dates and location of military assignment compelling withdrawal from classes to Admissions & Records.Ìý

• Military withdrawal may be requested at any time uponÌýyourÌýreturn to college.Ìý

• Military withdrawalsÌýwillÌýnot be counted as one of the three enrollment attempts allowed to achieve a passing grade, or in the calculation of academic progress for the determination of academic standing.

The Post - 9/11 GI Bill® is a new education benefit program forÌýstudentsÌýwho served on active duty on or after September 11, 2001. You mayÌýreceive benefits for any approved program offered by a school in the United States that is authorized to grant an associate (or higher) degree.Ìý

The Montgomery GI Bill® - Active Duty, called "MGIB" for short, provides up to 36 months of education benefits to eligible veterans.Ìý

The Montgomery GI Bill® - Selected Reserve is an education program that provides up to 36 months of education benefits to members of the Selected Reserve.Ìý

An eligible reservist may get education benefits while in a program approved for VA training. This includes the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard Reserves, as well as the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard.ÌýIt is the first program that doesn't requireÌýyouÌýto serve on active duty in the regular Armed Forces to qualify.Ìý

®ÌýÌý - 36 months entitlementÌý

Chapter 34 (VEAP) provided education benefits to individuals who served on Active Duty after January 31, 1955, and prior to January 1, 1977. The benefit expired on December 31, 1989.

However, Public Law 98-525 authorized the conversion of the Vietnam Era G.I. Bill® to the Montgomery G.I. Bill®. This conversion enabled many Vietnam Era veterans to qualify for benefits under Chapter 30. Vietnam Era veterans who think they may be eligible for this conversion should contact the VA Education Customer Service Office at (888) 442-4551. REAP (Chapter 1607 of title 10, U.S. Code) is an education program that provides up to 36 months of education benefits to members of the Selected Reserves, Individual Ready Reserve (IRR), and National Guard, who are called or ordered to active service in response to a war or national emergency, as declared by the President or Congress.Ìý

Ìý- 1 to 36 months entitlementÌý

VEAP is available if you elected to make contributions from your military pay to participate in this education benefit program. Your contributions are matched on a $2 for $1 basis by the Government. You may use these benefits for degree, certificate, correspondence, apprenticeship/on-the-job training programs, and vocational flight training programs. In certain circumstances, remedial, deficiency, and refresher training may also be available.Ìý

TheÌýVetSuccessÌýprogram assists Veterans with service-connected disabilities to prepare for, find, and keep suitable jobs.

For Veterans with service-connected disabilities so severe that they cannot immediately consider work,ÌýVetSuccessÌýoffers services to improve your ability to live as independently as possible.Ìý

There are assistance programs available so yourÌýspouseÌýand childrenÌýcan attend college, too.ÌýÌý

The California College Fee Waiver (CFW) program benefits the spouse and children of U.S. veterans.ÌýStudents meeting the eligibility criteria may get their college fees waived if they attend a California Community College, a California State University, or University of California campus.

Eligible students can apply for theÌýCalVetÌýFee Waiver at the VA office off Ralston Street in Ventura.

®Ìý - 45 months entitlementÌý

Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance Program (DEA) provides education and training opportunities to eligible dependents of certain veterans who:ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý

• Are permanently and totally disabled due to a service-related condition.

• Are hospitalized or receiving outpatient medical care, services, or treatment; and are likely to be discharged orÌýreleased from service for this service-connected disability.

• Are missing in action or captured in line of duty by a hostile force.Ìý

• Died while on active duty or as a result of a service-related conditionÌý
