Our favorite Chex Mix is old fashioned, but it’s our favorite. We have carried this one on trips in Ziplock bags (sizes snack to gallon size, depending on the children’s age at the time!), given these in tins, quart jars, special dollar store or Sam’s Club special containers for the holidays and even made some in the summertime once in a blue moon just because! Always made between the day before or on Thanksgiving Day, this is a holiday kick starter at our home! My youngest son’s eyes light up and I become the “best mom in the world” as those cake pans of precious cereal and pretzels come out of the oven! Folks, it’s the little traditions we create annually that win out in the memories of our children! Make it special whatever it is that you do! Be counted on!

OLD FASHIONED CHEX MIX of my childhood

2 Cups Cheerios
2 Cups Corn Chex
2 Cups Rice Chex
1 – 2 Cups Wheat Chex
2 Cups of Pretzel Sticks (we like sticks better than twists because they soak up the butter better and little kids love the sticks the best!)
OPTIONAL: Pepperoni Slices cut into halves and Mixed nuts (my boys don’t do nuts, so we leave these out)

Special Sauce:
1 Stick Butter (the real stuff!)
2 1/2 Tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
2 1/2 teaspoons Season-All
1 teaspoon Onion Powder
1 teaspoon Garlic Powder

Set oven to 250 degrees to preheat. Mix the dry ingredients in a roaster or cake pan, add optional items. Melt butter in a 2-4 cup glass measuring cup and add all other Special Sauce ingredients. Pour the Special Sauce over the dry ingredients and stir until all coated. Place mixed ingredients in pan into preheated oven and set timer for 15 minutes. Stir again at 15 minutes and repeat this step two more times. After one hour in the oven is up, remove from the oven and let cool before serving, dividing or packaging. (Total oven time 1 hour with stirring occurring every 15 minutes)
